Hey Ponytail

I went to Chelsea School of Art to do my Foundation Year in the tail end
of the Swinging Sixties. The college was located at the end of the Kings Rd and that meant
I had to walk from Sloane Square tube station all the way along to Manresa Rd.
As you all know, it was a posh part of London and full of well-dressed ladies (and men) on
shopping missions in the fashion boutiques. Many of the people I saw regularly were locals.
There was one woman, much older than me, who I saw at least once a week. She was a classic
Sloane Ranger, always immaculately dressed and coiffured.

I often wonder if she is still haunting the shops in the Kings Rd. This song is for her.

Here’s a piece about Swinging London.

HEY PONYTAIL

Hey Ponytail
I love the way you swing your hip
Hey Ponytail
I love the way you wear your lips

All the Faces turn to look at you
They know you’re something special
When you throw your hair back, Ponytail.

Hey Ponytail
In your mini skirt
Hey Ponytail
You make me want to flirt with you

Let’s swing through the sixties
Buy an Ossie Clark have lunch with Twiggie
Queen of the Kings Road, Ponytail

Remember when we lived at Annabels
And Leonard cut your hair
Patten read you poetry
Hockney caught you with a crayon

Bailey shot you naked
Electric Lady

Hey Ponytail
You still look Fab to me
Hey Ponytail
You’re as cool as a girl can be

Even though you’re sixty
You can swing your hips and drive me crazy
In your Laura Ashley, Ponytail
