Coracle

As you all know, a coracle is a small boat that is mostly used for fishing. There is
an Irish legend that says St Brendan sailed from Ireland to North America in a coracle.

I love the simplicity of their structure.
In this song, I am using the image to give the idea of someone who is ‘adrift’ from the rest of the world.

CORACLE

I’m fishing in my coracle
Watching you dance on the Isle of the Blessed
I’ve got my little telescope
I can see the things that are far, far away

I used to be the close-up kid
But now I can’t get near to you
Cos’ you locked up the door
and you nailed up the window

I’m driving in my coracle
Steering by the stars in the cold black night
I could drink the seven seas
My thirst is unquenchable

I never felt a burn like this
I’m taking a bath in a lime pit
So I’ll kick in your door
And climb through your window

The great whale is a mighty big fish
We built our world from it’s blubber and it’s ribs
And he’s keeping his great dark eye on me

Got my coracle on my back
I’m walking at a snails pace
I’m taking the double track
Going down the shoreline
I’m sailing on the daring sea
The great dark eye swims under me

As you watch from your door
And you watch from your window
